House rules generator

Stuck playing the same way every game night? Roll a random set of house rules — then play them against the computer in one tap.

How many rules?
🎲 Seven swap — Playing a 7 swaps hands with any player.
🎲 Eruption — Drawing erupts 0–4 random cards.
🎲 Cross-stacking — +4 can be stacked on a +2.

Why house rules?

Colour-matching card games are simple by design, which is exactly why families invent house rules. Each rule in this generator changes one thing — how draw cards work, what special numbers do, how fast you must play or how many cards you hold — and they combine in surprising ways. Stacking plus cross-stacking makes huge piles; jump-in plus doubles makes every turn frantic; no mercy plus short hands is over in minutes.

Every rule here is built into Prism Riot, so you can test a combination against the computer before bringing it to the table. Read the house rules guide for what each one does to the game, or build a table by hand in Riot Lab.

All rules in the generator

  • Zero rotate: Playing a 0 rotates every hand one seat.
  • Jump-In: An identical card can be played out of turn.

  • Doubles: Play every card of the same number at once.
  • Draw until you play: Keep drawing until a playable card turns up.
  • No mercy: +6, +10, PURGE and a 25-card knockout.
  • Dark side: ECLIPSE cards flip the table; actions get harsher.

  • Speed round: Eight seconds per turn.
  • Short hands: Deal five cards instead of seven.
  • Big hands: Deal ten cards.
  • Wild storm: Six extra wild cards in the deck.

  • Anything goes: Every card plays on every card.

Frequently asked questions

What are good house rules for colour card games?

The most popular are stacking draw cards, the 7-0 rule and jump-in. For a faster game try Doubles or short hands; for a meaner one, cross-stacking or no mercy.
