How scoring works in colour-matching card games

Updated September 25, 2026

Most people play single rounds, but the scoring system turns a colour-matching card game into a proper match. When someone goes out, they score the cards left in everyone else's hands, and the first player to a target — often 500 — wins.

Here's how the points work in the classic system and in Prism Riot, with worked examples and a free calculator that keeps score for your table.

Card values

  • Number cards 0–9: face value.
  • Action cards (FLIP, FREEZE, +2, SHIELD, SWAP, BLAST, ECLIPSE): 20 points. The classic equivalents (reverse, skip, draw two) are also 20.
  • Merciless energy cards (+6, PURGE, FREEZE ALL): 30.
  • Wilds (PRISM, +4, REV +4, ROULETTE, ALL BLAST): 50.
  • +10: 60.

Worked example

Four players. You go out. Rival A holds a 7, a 3 and a +2 (7 + 3 + 20 = 30). Rival B holds a PRISM wild and a 9 (50 + 9 = 59). Rival C holds a 0 (0). You score 30 + 59 + 0 = 89 points for the round.

Prism Riot's round score

Single rounds use a richer score for bragging rights: 100 for the win, plus the points left in rivals' hands, plus 2 points per turn under 60 (speed), 25 per Riot Burst, a combo bonus of 10 × your best combo (3+), and 50 for a win without drawing. XP is a quarter of the score times the mode's multiplier.

Match formats

  • Points race: first to 300 (Points Race), 500 (Prism Marathon, Mercy Marathon) or 150 (Eights Race).
  • Elimination: the player holding the most points after each round is out.
  • Best of three: used by the Prism Cup.
